Detailed Web hosting requirements
In order to run a Turbocharged-powered site, all your hosting server needs is:
- FTP or SSH access: to install Turbocharged.
- a MySQL database on the host: to store the content of your site.
- PHP: to generate the pages — all pages are dynamically generated.
- .htaccess and Apache URL Rewriting permission (optional):
mod_rewritelets you have search engine tuned page addresses, and the rules in the.htaccessfile are automatically managed by Turbocharged.
If your hosting server has these requirements, you’re ready to run Turbocharged. You can run Turbocharged on your Web root (www.mysite.com) or on a subdirectory (www.mysite.com/blog) — in either case, Turbocharged will be perfectly happy.
Plugin requirements
Some of Turbocharged’s plugins have requirements of their own:
- Markdown: requires
php-mbstringinstalled on your server. If you use it, and experience a rare error where pages are sent incomplete, you need to install that PHP component. - XHTML validator: requires either
xmllintor Tidy. Apart from that, PHP’s safe mode cannot be on. - WordPress AutoLink: requires PHP 5 and the XML module for PHP (
php-xml).
Installation requirements
You need three things to be able to install Turbocharged:
- An FTP (or SSH) client: to upload files. The standard Internet Explorer Web Folders client can be used, or you may prefer a more advanced utility, such as CuteFTP or WinSCP.
- A text editor: to let Turbocharged know the database password. Notepad will work just fine.
- A Web browser: to start Turbocharged up and start customizing your blog. Any Web browser will do.
So, in 99.9% of the cases, you are de facto ready to install Turbocharged.
